Dear reader,
As we wrap up this month of reflecting on values, I want to ask you something that doesn’t come up often in conversations, but quietly lingers beneath the surface of how we live. When you walk into a room or leave one is there a shift? Is your presence felt, and when you’re gone, is your absence noticed?
Not because of volume or titles. Not because you make a scene. But because your presence carries something deeper, your values. Your integrity. Your peace. Your reliability. The small, quiet behaviours that shape the environments you touch. Let’s be real: there are people whose absence brings relief. And there are those whose absence creates a visible gap.
Here’s a hard truth we don’t always admit: If your absence goes unnoticed, there’s a problem. But if your absence feels more peaceful than your presence, then there’s a bigger problem. You see, it’s not just about being missed, it’s why you’re missed. If you're the one who brings tension, control, criticism, or gossip, then your absence might feel like fresh air. And that’s not a legacy anyone wants. On the other hand, if your presence brings consistency, trust, warmth, and accountability then your absence will leave a space no one else can quite fill.
Ask yourself: What energy do I bring when I walk into a room? What do I leave behind when I exit? Are people better because I showed up or are they quieter because I left? That’s what values do. They plant roots in your everyday presence. They create a steady hum of reliability, empathy, and safety. You don’t have to be the most charismatic. You just have to be the most consistent.
This week, I want you to think deeply: If I disappeared for a week, would my absence shift the rhythm of the spaces I’m part of? Would my colleagues feel the difference? Would my friends? My family? And if they would, what would they miss?
Would they miss my encouragement? My order? My generosity? My accountability? Or would they say nothing changed because I was never really there in the first place?
So here’s your challenge this week:
Reflect: Does my presence add value to the rooms I walk into?
Be honest: Is my absence a relief or a reminder of goodness that left with me?
Take action: Choose one value to live intentionally each day this week kindness, honesty, patience, generosity and let it speak for you.
Because when your presence is rooted in real values, it doesn’t need to shout. It simply echoes long after you’re gone. Let’s be people who carry peace, not pressure. Clarity, not chaos. Strength, not stress. Let our absence be felt because our presence meant something. And let us remember: values aren’t about being impressive, they’re about being remembered well.
See you all in August, Monday Memo will be back.
