DETAILS/Ember Months /Detail No.08
How times flies. Just yesterday we were celebrating 2020 Xmas and we are in September already. Early this year, I had mapped out my plans for 2021. Nine months after, some had come true, some have not materialised yet. Isaiah 49:14 – 15 has given me all the reassurance I need.
I don’t know about you. What were your expectations for the year? Health? Money? Job? Spouse? More Pocket Money? Professional Course Certification? Kids? Better Marriage? Admission? Promotion? A new car? House? To Visit Yankee? To take over Aso Rock?
Don’t give up yet. Our good Lord that has brought you this far will surely put a testimony on your lips. I am casting all my cares on Jesus. You should too. Amen. Welcome to September.
Looking at the name “September“, I would say it is associated with the number seven, judging by the Latin word ‘Sept‘. While I did some findings for the meaning of September, I found that it comes from the Latin root Septem-, which meant “seven.” This was used mainly in the original Roman republican calendar to denote the seventh month of the year rather than the ninth.
September kept its original name from the Roman calendar where it was the seventh month because it was named during a time when the calendar year began with March. This is one of the reasons why the name does not correspond with the placement in the Julian and Gregorian calendars.
To me, September marks the beginning of the last quarter of the year. In essence, it marks the beginning of the countdown to a new year. It no doubt serves as the ember months’ usher, but it also tells us of the possibilities that surround us still before the year winds down.
Different acronyms and mottos are coined for this month. These acronyms range from ‘September to remember’ to ‘September running towards December.‘ For all it’s worth, this month is exceptional in its way. Apart from it being the third of four months to have a length of 30 days, it is also the fourth of five months to have a length of fewer than 31 days.
Surprisingly, we have 121 days left of the 365 days granted to us on a clean slate for the year 2021. This means we have expended 244 days chasing our dreams, running after our goals, or just been dormant. The year hasn’t ended yet and I know quite some people who believe that the year 2021 feels likes two years in one.
First, the news of several disasters broke in various parts of the world and then the continuous lockdown due to the coronavirus. The year proceeded further to shock us rudely with the death of some important personalities. Some were as a result of the coronavirus, others were unrelated. So far, some people are a bit apprehensive about what the year still has left to unfold.
For me, I see September and the rest of the year unfolding greatness, breakthroughs, and success. Whatever we think or project the day or month to be, in some way comes back to turn out almost that way if not exactly that way. Let us renounce the emberophobia and ride on the wings of these ember months into the new year.
Let us usher in the ember months through September with all gladness of heart and thoughts positive enough to erase the ills and woes of the months past. Speak positively into each of the remaining 121 days and see how it all turns out at the end of the year. Whether you’d like to say/hear it or not, I’d still say HAPPY NEW MONTH OF SEPTEMBER! IT IS A SEPTEMBER TO REMEMBER FOR GOOD!
