Monday Memo| Detail No. 158| June 09, 2025.

As kids, we lived through our senses. Sand wasn’t just dirt—it was squishy, cool, and a little bit magical. Showers weren’t just functional—they were waterfalls we sang under. A mango wasn’t just a fruit—it was a juicy adventure down your elbows.

Then we grew up.

We got busy. We started multitasking. We scroll while eating. We tune out on walks. We answer emails while brushing our teeth. Life didn’t stop being sensory, we just stopped noticing.

But this week, we return.

We immerse in our senses, not to escape life, but to truly meet it.

A friend once told me that when she’s anxious, she rubs the seam of her jeans between her fingers. “It makes me feel real again,” she said. And I got it. That tiny texture—the rough stitching, the familiar fabric—it’s grounding.

Another friend? She goes outside barefoot. Every evening. Even if it’s just for one minute. “The grass reminds me I’m human,” she laughs. "And weirdly, it works."

You don’t need a spa day. You don’t need a retreat in Bali. You just need your senses—and your willingness to notice.

So this week, let’s come back through the doors we were born with:

Smell the first slice of bread when you open a new loaf.

Listen to the background hum of your neighborhood—the clatter, the birds, the rustle of leaves.

Look up at the sky mid-day—not for a sign, but just because it’s there.

Taste your next bite like it’s the only one you get today.

Touch the fabric of your shirt. The cool glass of water. The softness of your pillow.

A small challenge for you:Go for a walk without your phone this week. Just once. Don’t track it, don’t time it. Let your senses guide you. Smell what’s in the air. Notice the cracks in the sidewalk. Feel the breeze. Let your shoulders drop.

Another? The next time you shower, really feel the water hit your back. Let it wash the day off you—not just your skin, but your mind. No playlist. No podcast. Just water. Maybe hum a little. Maybe cry a little. Maybe breathe deeper than you have in days.

You don’t have to force anything. You just have to show up. Let life touch you again.

Because when you reconnect with your senses, joy sneaks back in, quietly but fiercely. You realize the world has been singing to you all along… you just needed to open the window.

So this week, wake up your senses. Let life come alive—through scent, sound, taste, touch, and sight.

The magic? It’s already here. You just have to feel it.
