DAY 15 of 30 FASHION CODES IN 30 DAYS

Listen, 2021 isn’t going to ring in itself—we have to help it along. And we’re going to have to affirm all the fashion codes while we do it. I don’t make the rules, I just come up with the codes. Take it up with management.

It’s Day 15, let’s kick start the week with this fashion code that deserves an Oscar Award. They often say Never say Never in life, but guess what Never say never in Fashion too!

Never say never to a vibe, colour, fabric, or silhouette, because you might have to eat your words later. Rather say, no thank you for now, but maybe later. Over time your feelings about a look can change because the factors(internal or eternal) can change the style. Our eyes also adjust to new looks over time. Sometimes you can’t imagine wearing something right up to the point that you fall in love with it.

Your aesthetic taste in terms of silhouette, colour, fabric, pattern, texture and design detailing is subjective, and can be wildly different from one person to another.

I’ve found that a person’s need for outfit variety — or lack thereof — has a noticeable impact on their style. Some people generally react faster to trends because they want to add “newness” to their look right away. The opposite holds true for “uniform dressers” and those who are disinterested in trends.

Your lifestyle is a factor that affects your style. Someone who works in a business formal or business casual environment has a different set of wardrobe needs to a stay-at-home Mum or somebody who works from home. How and where you socialize will also have an impact on your style, as will the extent to which you travel, attend formal events, and play sports.

Climate is another important external factor to consider because it’s best to be practical about your wardrobe choices. For example, no matter how much you might love to wear floor sweeping flared trousers with pointy toe heels, they’re really unsuited to wet and dusty weather.

One thing you must have at the back of your mind when making purchases and getting dressed is never say never. Our tastes evolve over time.

There are trends I wear now, that I wouldn't have gravitated towards a few years ago. Clogs, which are having a moment right now, are a good example of this, and I recently just bought my first pair!

Let me share this story, few weeks to my birthday. My dad bought some clothes for me, I wasn’t available to check them out, but my younger ones called and said the outfits were kind of funny. That I might not like them. Fast forward, I wore two for my birthday. You can’t know until you have tried it on.
